Employees buy family-owned Pepperell farm for $1.2M
After 94 years of ownership, the Hills family sold Kimball Fruit Farm in Pepperell for almost $1.2 million, according to the Middlesex South District Registry of Deeds and an announcement on the farm’s website.
Carl and Marie Hills, who have managed the farm since 1990, announced their retirement on Feb. 3, four days before the sale closed. The Hills family and its relatives have owned the farm since 1928.
The farm was sold to Amanda and David Wadleigh, who have been employees at the farm, with David working directly under Carl Hills for 18 years.
Kimball sells fruits, vegetables, and herbs at farmers markets throughout the Boston area.
The roughly 180-acre farm spans 182-184 and 171-175 Hollis St. in Pepperell, and is assessed by the town at roughly $460,000.
